Many people, when talking about Birmingham, think there's absolutely nothing to do there. They couldn't be more wrong! Birmingham boasts many things to keep a visitor busy: a large zoo, botanical gardens, a science museum with an IMAX theater, unique shops and restaurants, museums, and many fine examples of historic architecture.
There's the Jazz Hall of Fame, the Sports Hall of Fame, the Birmingham Museum of Art, the Civil Rights Institute, and one of the best research libraries I've been to. To top it off, almost everything is within walking distance--just park your car in one of the convenient lots and spend the day walking around!

In this shot of Downtown Birmingham you can see 20th street, which runs north/south. Most of the streets and avenues run one way; the odd numbered avenues run to the east, the even numbered avenues run to the west, the odd numbered streets run north, and the even numbered streets run south. |

This is Five Points South. Just take 20th street south from downtown and you can't miss it. This is a popular evening destination; it may take a while to find a parking place on the weekend. Don't let this keep you away, there's plenty to see and do here! |
